Maros – The Soil Science Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture, Hasanuddin University, held a community service activity on Saturday, October 12, 2024, in Marannu Village, Maros Regency. With the theme “Agricultural Product Downstreaming for Soil and Water Conservation in Enhancing Agricultural Production,” the activity aimed to assist farmers in addressing soil salinity issues in paddy fields and increasing productivity.

The Head of Marannu Village, Abd. Wahab, S.IP, expressed his hope that this initiative would provide solutions to the soil salinity problems in the area. Meanwhile, Sehuddin, SP, Coordinator of BPP, emphasized the importance of free soil health assessments for farmers and hoped that the program would continue in the future. Ibu Wahida, SP., M.Si., Coordinator of BPP for Lau District, also supported the program as an effort to boost paddy field productivity.

In her remarks, Dr. Ir. Asmita Ahmad, ST., M.Si., Head of the Soil Science Study Program, extended her gratitude to the village authorities for allowing the program to be conducted.

The community service involved local farmer groups and students from HIMTI (Indonesian Soil Science Student Association). The main activities included soil testing using PUTS, pH meters, and salinometers, aimed at helping farmers better understand their soil conditions to optimize agricultural yields.
